At the Copa, Copacabana...

É impressionante a vibe que tem em Copacabana. Não, Copacabana não é a praia preferida dos cariocas, mas você não deixa de ver pessoas malhando na orla, passeando a luz do sol mesmo no "inverno". É um lugar onde é fácil identificar os turistas, não somente pelo tom de pele que ainda precisa de um solzinho mas também pelos olhinhos brilhando, que dizem "Estou em Copacabana!", e esse encanto tem motivo. É um lugar mesmo mágico!

The vibe around Copacabana is really impressive. No, Copacabana isn't the beach of choice of natives of Rio, but you will always see people jogging along the beach and enjoying the sunshine even during our "winter". It's a place where you can easily spot the tourists, not only because of their pale skin which shows they haven't spent enough time sunbathing like the natives do, but also because of their sparkling eyes that say "I'm in Copacabana!" and there is a reason for this magical state of mind. It's a whimsical place, indeed!

Headband de turbante / Turban headband

Essa é uma das minhas headbands favoritas. Além de ter a estampa galaxy, ela imita um turbante sem precisar ter todo aquele trabalho de "torce daqui-inverte a ponta pra lá". Com certeza ela vai estar na minha mala para os Estados Unidos. Sobre a viagem, eu farei um intercâmbio e lá darei aula de português em uma faculdade além de assistir aulas. Presentão de Deus. Assim ó:de graça! ;)

This is one fo my favorites headbands. Not only it has the galaxy print but it also has that turban twist - literally - to it, which spares me from the oh-so confusing "twist one of the tips and pass it around the scarf" troubles. It will certainly be in my bag when I move to the United States. Concerning the trip, at the United States I'll be as an exchange student at a university, not only attending classes but also teaching Portuguese. It was a major gift from God. One of those gifts He just hand over, for free! ;)

1. Esse post é um breve hiato para agradecer do fundo do meu coração por todos os elogios e comentários super carinhosos que recebo através desse blog. Por exemplo, um dos comentários que tem aparecido com bastante frequência diz respeito à minha pele, e muitas perguntam qual base uso. Juro que não uso base. Sempre tive a pele seca, portanto nunca precisei muito de base nem de pó, e consegui passar pela adolescência (quase) ilesa a espinhas. É um caso de sorte genética. Mas eu sempre capricho no bronzer, iluminador, e claro, corretivo. Minhas olheiras são enormes!

Devido a perguntas constantes como essa, criei essa página, respondendo dúvidas e elogios que aparecem com mais frequência.

2. Criei um tutorial para a trança heidi que ficará nessa página, junto com outros tutoriais. Fico muito feliz quando vejo que as pessoas gostam dos meus penteados a ponto de quererem aprender a técnica. Em casos assim, sempre farei um tutorial. Por exemplo, a trança escama de peixe teve  um resultado positivo, então assim que tiver mais tempo, farei um tutorial ensinando a técnica.

1. This post is a brief pause to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the compliments and sweet comments I've been gettin through this blog. For example, one question which pops up pretty often is regarding my skin, and what foundation I use. I don't use foundations. I've always had dry skin, so I never really needed to use foundation nor face powder. Also, I've managed to go through my teen years (almost) immune to pimples. It's a case of lucky genetics. However, I always put on an extra coat of bronzer, highlighter and concealer, of course! I have huge dark circles!

Because of frequent questions like the one above, Iv'e created this page, to answer the most frequent doubts.

2. I've created a tutorial for the milkmaid braid, which is in this page, together with other tutorials. I get really content when I see how much people like my hairdos, to the point of wanting to know how it's done. For example, the fishtail braid had a really positive response, so I'll be putting a tutorial together as soon as I have the time.

A Trança Heidi / The Milkmaid Braid

Um dos motivos pelos quais eu amo tranças, é porque elas são perfeitas para o verão. A trança Heidi, então, parece ser a mais adequada para os dias de calor intenso, além de dar um toque romântico a qualquer visual. Por isso, fiquei muito feliz com a resposta positiva e com os pedidos por um tutorial, quando exibi o penteado nesse post.

   One of the reasons why I love braids, it's beacause they're perfect for the summer. The milkmaid braid, more than any other, it's a perfect updo for those intensely hot days. Besides, it gives a romantic feel to any look. That'ss why I was very happy with the positive comments and the constant requests for a tutorial on the braid, when I sported them in this post.

1. Depois de dividir o cabelo ao meio, comece uma trança na altura da orelha. Porém, se o seu cabelo for mais curto, inicie o penteado um pouco mais acima.

1. Part your hair down in the middle, and start a braid below your ear. However, if your hair is shorter, start the braid a little above than I did.

2. Faça o mesmo do outro lado e prenda as tranças com um elástico que seja da cor do seu cabelo.

2. Braid the other side as well, and secure it with a rubber band whose color is similar to your hair color.

3. Para passá-la sobre a cabeça, não dobre a trança. Ao invés disso, gire-a para frente.

3. Wrap the first braid foward and across the top of your head. Don't fold it.

4. Prenda a trança de forma firme com grampos.

5. Repita o processo com a outra trança. Gire-a para frente, cobrindo sua cabeça.

Por isso eu amo o inverno / That's why I love winter

  Uma das minhas combinações favoritas é juntar um vestido romântico com uma jaqueta de couro. Há algum tempo queria colocar esse visual no blog, mas faltava o clima concordar com a minha idéia, até que os primeiros frescores do inverno chegaram. Adicionei ao visual uma novidade e uma familiaridade: experimentei meu novo batom rosa, um pouco mais forte do que eu normalmente uso; e fiz uma trança de escama de peixe, a minha favorita.

One of my favorite combinations is to blend the romantic dress with a leather jacket. It's been a while since I've had this idea for a post, but the weather wouldn't allow me to, until the chilly winter breeze started blowing recently. I've also added to the look a touch of novelty and something familiar: I tried on my new pink lipstick, whose shade is a little stronger than the ones I normally use; and, I decided to go with a fishtail braid, my favorite type of braid.

    Apesar de morar ao lado do Rio de Janeiro, confesso que não conhecia grande parte dos lugares históricos da cidade. Há um tempo atrás tomei a decisão de mudar essa realidade. O primeiro passeio foi uma visita ao centro do Rio durante uma linda manhã de sábado. Conseguir parar e admirar os lindos prédios e monumentos daquele lugar sem a agitação dos dias da semana. É incrível a quantidade de prédios históricos existentes dentro de três quarteirões, e é fantástico como nós passamos uma vida inteiro cruzando esses quarteirões alienados à história ali inserida e ainda viva.

 
   Even though I live next door to Rio de Janeiro, I confess that I was oblivious to a major part of the city's historical sites. A while ago I decided to change that reality, and for starters, I visited the historical downtown buildings during a lovely Saturday morning. That day I was able to stop and admire the beautiful building without the chaos which the days of the week bring to the neighborhood. I was in awe at the massive amount of historical monuments that exist within the limits of only three blocks. It's amazing how we cross those streets during our entire lives neither minding nor noticing the history there inserted and still pretty much alive.

Esmaltes, anéis e tranças / Nail polishes, rings and braids

     Existem três itens que, se monto um visual sem eles, me sinto um tanto incomodada: anéis, penteados e esmaltes. Eu amo a idéia dos anéis maxi, porque eles dispensam qualquer outro acessório, já que são o suficiente para causar impacto. Já quando o assunto é esmalte, assim como a maioria das brasileiras, faço questão de usar uma cor diferente a cada semana; porém os vermelhos (ao contrário da maioria das brasileiras) nunca foram meus favoritos. Até encontrar esse, o Melancia da Colorama. Gosto do fato da cor não ser agressiva e ter um ar divertido, ao invés do sexy tradicional. Logo, o esmalte passou a ser um dos mais usados do meu acervo.

OBS.: Queria agradecer a todos que já me ajudaram com um voto na eleição do TopBlog 2011, principalmente à Mércia do Blog da Mércia, que é brasileira e não desistiu nunca! =)

  There are three itens that, if I put together a look without them, I feel somehow uneasy: rings, hairdos and nail polishes. I love the idea of maxi rings. They dismiss every other accessory since they're already enough to make a statement. About nail polishes, just like most Brazilian women, I make sure to put on a different shade every week, however, unlike most Brazilian women, red has never been one of my favorite colors for nail polish. Until I found this one, called Melancia, by Colorama. I love the fact that its shade is fun instead of agressive. Also, it somehow seems to avoid the 'sexy' category which almost every red nail polish seems to fall into. It didn't take long for it to become a frequent choice.

  Outro elemento fundamental da minha rotina é o penteado. Faço questão de aparecer no trabalho e na faculdade com algum detalhe no cabelo, e as tranças são as minhas principais escolhas. Quando fiz essa das fotos, desejava fazer uma trança escama-de-peixe embutida, pois desta forma disfarçaria o meu bad hair day. Além disso, o cabelo permaneceria arrumado ao longo dos inúmeros compromissos do dia. Consegui fazer com que ela ficasse soltinha no início e bagunçadinha na ponta. Tive que fotografar o resultado!

When it comes to hairdos, I always make sure to sport something different, and braids happen to be my favorite type of hairdo. This time I went for a fishtail braid that would start at the top of the head, in order to turn my bad hair day around, and to keep my hair tidy throughout the day. I managed to make it loose at the beginning and messy at the tip. I just had to snap a shot of the result!

Retorno às raízes

Quando adolescente, preto era a cor predominante no meu armário. Era simples, clássica e não tinha como dar errado. Porém, quando comecei a me interessar por roupas e composições, fui para o outro extremo e investi bastante nas cores mais variadas possíveis. Daí em diante, passei a achar o preto sem graça. No entanto, fashionistas como Victoria Beckham estão me fazendo aos poucos voltar a experimentar a cor. Apesar de encontrar uma locação que implorava pelo romântico, decidi fugir do óbvio e desfrutar da ocasião para tentar algo novo: a cor escura e a composição da foto, mas um toque de familiaridade: uma trança.

When I was a teenager, black was a predominant color in my wardobre. It is simple, classic and you just can't go wrong with it. However, when I first started to take interest in fashion, I went from one extreme to the other, and decided to invest heavily on bright colors. From then on, I started to think that black clothes as plain and boring. Nevertheless, fashionistas such as Victoria Beckham are starting to change my mind, and making me take interest in the color once again. So as I came upon this scenery, I decided to try something new for myself:  try a dark outfit and avoid the romantic vibe that would normally go along with pictures like these. All of that with a twist of familiarity: a braid.
